SCHOOL FIELD TRIP TOURS
Africatown Heritage House is a new site of the History Museum of Mobile located in the heart of historic Africatown adjacent to the Mobile County Training School and the Robert L. Hope Community Center.
This museum is the home of Clotilda: The Exhibition which tells the story of the 110 remarkable men, women and children who endured the voyage of the last known slave ship to land in the United States. The exhibition highlights their beginnings in West Africa, their time of enslavement, and their creation of the settlement of Africatown. The last part of the exhibition is about the discovery of the sunken schooner. Pieces of the Clotilda, recovered from the shipwreck, are on display in the exhibition and are on loan from the Alabama Historical Commission.
The exhibition has been curated, developed, and designed in conjunction with the local community and the wider descendant community, and in consultation with experts around the country. The Mobile County Commission and the City of Mobile funded the museum’s construction. Africatown Heritage House is located at 2465 Winbush St, Mobile, AL 36610.
